"Next time bring a cloth shopper bag."
This photo essay serves as a visceral exploration of how poor recycling practices transcend environmental issues to directly impact human health and our physical existence. Through a series of self-portraits, I place myself at the center of the narrative to illustrate the alarming process in which plastic and cardboard begin to "merge" with the human form. By blurring the physical boundaries between the body and waste, the project visualizes a future where we are no longer separate from the debris we discard, but rather consumed by it.
As a graphic design student, my perspective is rooted in the daily reality of our industry: a field that often generates a staggering amount of waste through excess materials, trial-and-error printing, and a reliance on single-use packaging. This project was born from the realization that every failed print or discarded prototype contributes to a larger systemic problem. It highlights the irony of a profession that strives for aesthetic perfection while often overlooking the environmental footprint left behind in the creative process.
